Anytime-Anywhere Testing with Proctored Exam Room Security
Integrity AND Convenience
Each year, millions of students take exams in distance learning programs without the
necessary oversight. Several million more students go to great lengths and expense to get to
testing centers where proper oversight can be assured. This tradeoff between convenience
and exam integrity is a source of constant frustration for both students and teachers.
The Product
Securexam Remote Proctor ("SRP") is a small stand alone device that connects to the test
taker's computer via USB. SRP enables schools, corporate training, and testing organizations
to administer computer-based tests anywhere, anytime, while still maintaining the same exam
room integrity as that found in a proctored testing center.
The Details
Through the unique combination of our own patented Securexam software and Securexam
Remote Proctor, we are able to provide both convenience and integrity to test takers in remote
locations by the implementation of two types of software solutions.
· Securexam Browser locks down online quizzing and testing tools within an institution's
Course Management System
· Securexam Student locks down both a Word Processor and Spreadsheet application
The Solution
Securexam Remote Proctor addresses every area of exam security by
· Authenticating the student with a fingerprint scanner prior to providing access to the
exam
· Restricting the computer's functions with our Securexam solution
· Video and audio monitoring of the exam time conditions capturing all suspicious
changes in sound and motion, just as a proctor would in a traditional exam
environment.
Reference Guide For Taking Examinations
Installation
· A Remote Proctor device can be sent directly to students from Software Secure.
· Students are able to download all the necessary SRP software and user-guides over
the Internet.
Enrollment
· Student is unable to access a test using SRP before first "enrolling".
· SRP "enrolls" the user by recording a video of the student providing a finger-scan,
capturing an image of the finger-scan, and taking a picture of the student.
· Once enrollment is complete, SRP will permit student access to an exam only after
properly authenticating that student with the enrollment data.
Implementation
· Test takers enter an exam formatted to be used with SRP either through their CMS
(i.e., Blackboard, WebCT) or Software Securer's Securexam Student program.
· SRP will require fingerprint authentication before permitting access to the exam.
· While in the exam, Securexam technology prohibits computer access to anything
other than the test (no access to the hard-drive, Internet, Instant-Messenger, etc.)
· While in the exam, SRP will send video clips of changes in motion (someone
entering the room) or sound (a phone conversation) for later review by teachers or test administrators.
Administration
· Teachers and test administrators have access to the administrative site to view
student enrollment (whether the student has enrolled, and enrollment data).
· Video clips of "suspicious activity" (material changes in motion or sound during an
exam) can be viewed at the administrative site.
· The security rules applied to an institution or particular exam can be changed at the
administrative site (examples include: whether the computer should be locked down during a test, whether video will be recorded, sensitivity of the motion filter).
